Aetiology of femoral hernias revisited: bilateral femoral hernia in a young male (two cases)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Bilateral femoral hernias are less common in men than in women and rare in young adults. Only one case of a bilateral femoral hernia in a young man has been reported in the literature before. Three main theories have been postulated for femoral hernias. The theory that they are an acquired disease is the most accepted due to the common occurrence of such hernias in multiparous women but the theory lacks enough evidence. We report two cases in young men. Anatomical variations in the femoral canal could be the primary aetiological factor in these patients. A unilateral femoral hernia in young men with acquired aetiological factors requires a clinical examination of the opposite side.

Background: Laparoscopic hernioplasty is a standard technique with increasing interest of patients and surgeons. Bilateral hernioplasty can be performed by laparoscopy as well. The aim of this study is to show laparoscopic bilateral hernioplasty is an acceptable method and use of eye-shaped mesh getting the best result. Methods: In 54 cases with bilateral inguinal hernia, under general anest...

Introduction. Femoral hernias are at high risk of strangulation due to the narrow femoral canal and femoral ring. This can lead to symptoms of obstruction or strangulation requiring emergency surgery and possible bowel resection. To our knowledge, there is only one previous published report of bilateral strangulated femoral hernia. We present our case of this phenomenon. Case Report. An 86-year...
متن کاملIntraoperative Images of the Totally Extraperitoneal Repair of Concurrent Spigelian and Groin Hernias
Minimally invasive surgical technology is changing the management of spigelian hernias. In addition to open repairs, laparoscopic transabdominal repairs as well as laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal repairs are well documented. However, because spigelian hernias are uncommon, few surgeons have a large volume of experience with spigelian hernia repairs. This is particularly true of the repair ...
متن کاملA new modification of laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure procedure for repairing pediatric femoral hernias involving a special needle and a wire loop
Femoral hernias are relatively rare in children, and more than half of pediatric femoral hernias are misdiagnosed. A 3-year-old boy was treated for an indirect inguinal hernia at the age of 2, but he exhibited an inguinal bulge one month after the operation. He underwent laparoscopy, and a right femoral hernia was detected. The femoral hernia was laparoscopically repaired via two small incision...
متن کاملBilateral Femoral Hernia with Strangulation on Right Side Containing Small Bowel Masquerading As a Groin Abscess
Femoral hernias are challenging conditions, not only because their diagnosis is often missed, but also because if left undiagnosed and untreated, their complications are severe and often life-threatening. The authors present a case of a femoral hernia of the small intestine and omentum, following strangulation, manifested as a groin abscess.
